Energy Breakfast Rice

This keeps the afternoon slump at bay. An alternative to oatmeal which has a moderate GI value of around 60 (without sugar), brown basmati rice is lower at around 45. There are also some additional nutritional aspects to rice bran. I like this cooked in water and dressed with oregano oil.
1 cup brown basmati rice, uncooked
1 3/4 cups water
1/2 tsp kosher salt
- Bring water to a boil
- Add salt and rice, return to boil and cover
- Reduce heat to low and simmer 30 minutes
- Turn off heat and let stand to finish with steaming for another 5 to 10 minutes.
Enjoy as is, or add fresh olive oil or oregano oil.
