Home Made Margherita Pizza
Contributed by: Melinda
You might think this is too simple to be satisfying, but it's really
wonderful, and you won't get up from the table feeling stuffed.
1 recipe Basic Pizza Dough
1 recipe Basic Pizza Sauce (this will be
slightly more than you need)
3/4 lb of shredded Mozzarella cheese (Use a good quality cheese as this is
a foundational flavor in the dish, not just glue.)
4 ripe, medium sized Roma tomatoes, thinly sliced
2 cups chopped or julienned fresh basil leaves
1 cup grated Romano cheese
Olive Oil (optional)
Chopped fresh garlic (optional)
- Preheat oven to 450-500 degrees with pizza stone inside
- Roll out pizza dough to approximately 12 inches (basic recipe makes
two 12 inch rounds)
- If desired, brush the entire surface with olive oil
- Spoon a thin layer of pizza sauce over the top, leaving about 1/2 inch
at edges
- Spread half the shredded Mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce
- Place sliced tomatoes over the cheese and sprinkle with additional
chopped garlic (optional)
- Top with half the basil
- Sprinkle half the grated Romano cheese over the top
- Using a pizza peel, place on baking stone and bake for 10-20 minutes,
until edges are golden brown
- Remove from oven and let sit about 3-5 minutes before slicing
- Repeat for second pizza with remaining ingredients
