Hummus with Pepper
Total time for this recipe is 30 minutes or
less.
This is my own hummus with peppers and other flavorings to make it a centerpiece. Traditional hummus would be made with only the beans, tahini salt & pepper.
1 can garbanzo beans, drain but reserve the liquid
2 Tbl Sesame Tahini (traditionally you would use 4 or more Tbl)
1/4 - 1/3 cup rough chopped red onion
1/4 - 1/3 cup rough chopped red pepper
4-5 sprigs fresh cilantro leaves, coarse chopped
2 med cloves garlic, rough chopped
Olive Oil
Salt
Pepper
Pita Bread, Flat Bread, Fresh Vegetables, Vegetable Pickle (italian style vegetable pickle is a good choice)
- Place beans, tahini, onion, red pepper, cilantro, salt and pepper into a food processor. Pulse until crumbly.
- Add about 2 tablespoons olive oil and process to a paste
- While processing, add bean liquid slowly until hummus reaches the desired consistency.
- Spread on a plate or spoon into a bowl and drizzle with a little olive oil. Sprinkle with some kosher salt.
Serve with breads, fresh vegetables and pickle. Hummus can be served thick or thin based on your preference.
