Potatoes Au Gratin

5 large Russets or 8 - 10 medium
1 medium onion, chopped
1 lb. cheddar cheese
1/4 to 1/2 cup butter
2 1/2 cups scalded milk
Salt and Pepper
  • Slice potatoes very thinly and alternate layers of potato, onion and cheddar cheese.
  • Halfway through add salt and pepper and again on the top.
  • Top with pieces of butter.
  • Pour scalded milk over the top.
  • Bake at 350 for 1 1/2 hours or until potato is very tender.
  • Stir after 20 minutes and then every 30 minutes.
