Spicy Cajun Shrimp
Contributed by: Melinda
This recipe goes together very fast, so make sure to have all the ingredients
at hand. Prepare your herbs and garlic just before you begin. This is great as either a main dish or an appetizer for parties.
2 lb shirmp, peeled and cleaned
6 Tbl butter or margarine
4 lg cloves garlic, crushed
leaves from 4 sprigs fresh thyme
leaves from 2 sprig fresh rosemary
6-8 lg oregano leaves
1 tsp salt
plenty of ground black pepper
2 tsp Paprika
1 tsp red pepper flakes
pinch Cayenne pepper (or more to taste)
2 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
1 cup dark beer
- Finely chop the herbs and combine with the crushed garlic
- Melt butter in skillet large enough to hold all the shrimp and sauce
- When butter is nearly melted add the garlic, herbs and spices
- When bubbly stir and add Worcestershire and shrimp
- Cook and stir over med-high heat until the shrimp is colored on both sides but not cooked through (about 2-4 minutes)
- Add beer and continue cooking until shrimp is cooked
- Remove cooked shrimp to a tray and continue cooking to reduce sauce over med-high heat about 5 minutes
- Serve hot
Bread is excellent dipped in this sauce. I serve the shrimp and sauce separately. It is good served over rice.
