Oranges in Wine
Contributed by: Melinda
This is an easy, make-ahead dessert that is very refreshing.
Serves 4.
5 oranges
2 Tbl sugar
1 stick cinnamon
2 cloves
Pinch salt
2 glasses Red Wine
- Cut the ends off 4 of the oranges and peel
- Slice peeled oranges into thin (about 1/4 inch thick) slices
- Carefully remove peel from remaining orange, avoiding the white pith
- Cut in half and squeeze juice into a small saucepan
- Add the sugar, cinnamon, cloves and a pinch of salt and heat slowly
- Remove the peel, cinnamon stick and cloves from the juice and add the
wine
- Continue to simmer over low heat for several minutes until the wine is
slightly reduced
- Place the orange slices onto a serving dish and pour the wine over
- Refrigerate until ready to serve
This is very nice sprinkled with some toasted, chopped almonds.
