Basil Lemon Tea

Contributed by: Melinda

Herbal teas have wonderful properties and if you grow herbs, they can be easily used to make refreshing and rejuvenating summer beverages.

If you have any chronic health issues or are taking any medications, seek advice from your physician or pharmacist before using/consuming herbs. Because herbs have medicinal properties, you could have a reaction if used in conjunction with medications/treatments.

This herbal tea has stinging nettle for overall health support as well as sweet basil which has a distinctive flavor. Combined with citrus it's unusual with a very big flavor. Perfect for when you have lots of basil in the garden!

What you need

  1. 4 cups boiling water
  2. 4 heaping teaspoons dried, crushed stinging nettle leaves
  3. 1/2 cup chopped or torn fresh basil leaves
  4. Juice of 1 lemon
  5. 2 Tablespoons of organic sugar or honey

How to make it

  1. Place herbs into a tea strainer or muslin bag and into a heat proof pot
  2. Pour boiling water over and let steep 30 minutes (15 would probably be enough if you want a milder flavor)

  4. Add lemon juice and sweetener and stir
