In the past I thought that the only suitable dessert for a dinner party or special occasion had to include fancy pastry or sugar and of course, the ever present cup of coffee (to temper the sweet). However, in the past several years, I've adopted a new attitude about dessert - or in my mind the "after dinner treats". I still enjoy fruit pies and we even have dessert parties featuring our Forestville Wild Blackberry Cobbler, but more often I take a much simpler and more satisfying approach.

After dinner at our house these days you're most likely to see a large platter covered with fresh or dried fruits, nuts and elegant cheeses such as Brie, Jarlsberg, Aged White Cheddar and Fresh Goat Cheese. Of course, I offer coffee, but the best accompaniment to this is a hearty red wine. This is delicious, easy, and fast, and life doesn't get much better.
