Freezing Fresh Blackberries

During late spring, we like to pick fresh wild blackberries. They are so wonderful and we try to get as many as we can while they're available. Since this is always more than we use immediately, I've started freezing them in the quantities I use for Forestville Wild Blackberry Cobbler.

What you need

  1. Freshly picked blackberries (not overripe)
  2. Ziplock Freezer Bags

How to make it

  1. Rinse blackberries and lay out on a dish towel to dry thoroughly
  2. Label several ziplock bags with the year and '4 cups'
  3. Very gently place blackberries into a large measuring cup to the 4 cup mark
  4. Pour berries into the ziplock bag and gently press out excess air
  5. Seal well and place flat on a shelf in the freezer
  6. Once frozen, you can stand the bag upright to conserve space

I do both 4 cup and 2 cup quantities. I pull out a 2 cup bag occasionally on hot days after dinner. We snack on partially thawed berries for dessert.
