Iced Tea with Stevia

Contributed by: Melinda

Stevia is an herb from south america that is used as a sweetener. It has no effect on blood glucose levels and virtually no calories. The equivalent to 1 teaspoon of sugar is 1/16 to 1/32 of a teaspoon of stevia. I have a powdered form and liquid forms are also available. Read the packaging to see if the product has already been diluted.

What you need

  1. 5 cups water
  2. 1/8 tsp pure stevia powder (or equivalent)
  3. 7 teabags - your choice
  4. Ice cubes

How to make it

  1. Add stevia to water in a saucepan and bring just to a boil
  2. Turn off heat and add tea bags
  3. Cover and let steep for about 1 hour - yes, it will be strong
  4. Remove teabags and add ice to the pan
  5. Allow to cool to room temperature
  6. Fill a pitcher with ice and pour tea over
  7. Refrigerate

Sweetness is a matter of personal preference. This is fairly mild - try 1/4 teaspoon stevia if you have a sweet tooth.
