Update 6/4/13: For both versions, I've been using chopped dried apricot instead of raisins and adding 2 T agave syrup when done. Doesn't need milk at all - the spices make it absolutely delicious!
Variation:
Make a paste with spices and 1 -2 tsp water. Heat 4 cups water to boiling and stir in oats. Cook over medium heat and low boil until oats begin to become gelatinous. Add spice paste and reduce heat to simmer. Cover and cook approximately 20 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent sticking. The oats should still have texture and not be soft. When finished, they will have absorbed most of the liquid. Turn off heat, uncover and allow to stand 5 - 10 minutes. Serve as above, or with agave syrup, stevia powder, etc.
