Oranges in Wine

What you need

  1. 5 oranges
  2. 2 Tbl sugar
  3. 1 stick cinnamon
  4. 2 cloves
  5. Pinch salt
  6. 2 glasses Red Wine

How to make it

  1. Cut the ends off 4 of the oranges and peel
  2. Slice peeled oranges into thin (about 1/4 inch thick) slices
  3. Carefully remove peel from remaining orange, avoiding the white pith
  4. Cut in half and squeeze juice into a small saucepan
  5. Add the sugar, cinnamon, cloves and a pinch of salt and heat slowly
  6. Remove the peel, cinnamon stick and cloves from the juice and add the wine
  7. Continue to simmer over low heat for several minutes until the wine is slightly reduced
  8. Place the orange slices onto a serving dish and pour the wine over
  9. Refrigerate until ready to serve

This is very nice sprinkled with some toasted, chopped almonds.
