Besan Falafel Patties
What you need
- 1 cup besan flour
- 1 tsp dried parsley or 1 Tbl fresh minced parsley
- 1 tsp dried cilantro or 1 Tbl fresh minced cilantro
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp garlic granules or powder
- 1/2 tsp onion granules or powder
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp cayenne or crushed pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 Tbl lemon juice
- 1/2 cup hot water
- Olive oil
How to make it
- Measure 1 cup besan flour into a medium mixing bowl
- Whisk and press out any lumps
- Add remaining dry ingredients and herbs - mix well
- Add lemon juice and hot water and stir to combine
- Let stand 1 hour or refrigerate for several hours (will be ok if it goes overnight, but use within 12 hours)
- Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat with 1-2 tablespoons oil
- Whisk batter, then spoon tablespoon sized portions into the pan
- Cook on first side until edges are bubbly and dry, flip and cook a minute or more on second side
