Kathy's Scalloped Potatoes

Contributed by: Kathy

What you need

  1. 8-9 med. potato's (about 4 1/2 lbs.)
  2. 1/2 chopped onion
  3. 21 Slices of Cheddar cheese (3/4 - 1 lb. sharp cheddar - sliced or grated)
  4. 1/2 cube of real Butter (Don't use margarine)
  5. Salt & Pepper
  6. 3 cups scalded milk

MM notes 12/2013: I added the weights for cheese and potatoes so it would be easier to make consistent. I don't use onion, but do add a large grated clove of garlic. I found first separating the potatoes into three groups makes it easy to build the dish into the three layers.

How to make it

  1. Slice potato's into 2 quart baking dish. When about 1 to 2 inches deep add onion, pepper and a little salt and seven cheese slices over potato's.
  2. Make another 2 inch layer and repeat seasonings except salt then cheese.
  3. Make a third layer ending with cheese.
  4. Pour milk over top. Dot with 1/2 cube butter.
  5. Bake at 350 to 375 degree oven for 2 hours turning potato's every 1/2 hour.
