Beefy Pizza with Cheddar

Delicious flavors and most ingredients are often on hand.

What you need

  1. 1 recipe Whole Grain Pizza Dough
  2. 1 lb ground beef
  3. 1 minced onion
  4. 3 cloves garlic, minced
  5. 1 tsp dried parsley
  6. 1 tsp dried basil
  7. 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  8. 1 cup tomato sauce
  9. 3/4 cup minced crimini mushrooms
  10. 3 thinly sliced scallions
  11. 1 tsp or more crushed pepper flakes
  12. 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  13. ground black pepper to taste
  14. 1 1/2 cup or more grated sharp cheddar cheese
  15. 2-3 Tbl grated romano or parmesan cheese
  16. Cornmeal

How to make it

  1. Preheat oven to 450-500º degrees with pizza stone inside
  2. Cook beef in a large skillet over medium high heat until cooked through
  3. Add minced onion and cook until onion is translucent
  4. Add garlic and dried spices and cook 1-2 minutes
  5. Add tomato sauce, reduce heat to medium low and continue cooking until tomato sauce is reduced
  6. Roll out pizza dough to approximately 12 inches (basic recipe makes two 12 inch rounds)
  7. Sprinkle a bit of cornmeal on a pizza peel and transfer one pizza round
  8. Spoon on half the beef mixture and spread gently over the dough leaving 1/2 inch edge
  9. Top with half the mushrooms, scallions and cheeses
  10. Transfer pizza to the preheated stone in the oven and repeat for the second pizza round
  11. Turn in the oven to brown crust evenly
  12. Pizza is done with the crust is nicely browned and cheese is bubbly and fully melted
  13. Remove and let cool a few minutes before slicing
