Haricot Beans with Chard

What you need

  1. 3-4 cups cooked Haricot beans (small white beans; navy beans)
  2. 1-2 cups reserved bean cooking liquid or water
  3. 2-4 cups chard leaves, chopped
  4. 1-2 cloves garlic, minced
  5. 1/2 - 1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  6. Flavorful fat, such as garlic infused olive oil, duck fat, bacon fat, etc.

How to make it

  1. Heat fat in a large skillet over medium-low heat
  2. Add garlic and red pepper flakes and allow to cook gently without coloring for 5-10 minutes
  3. Add chard and increase heat to medium
  4. Cook until chard begins to wilt, then add beans and about 1/2 cup reserved liquid
  5. Cook until beans are hot and chard is fully cooked, adding additional reserved liquid as beans dry out
